Let’s become Mobile-friendly

May 9, 2019 | Digital Marketing Strategy

Nowadays, people have a tendency to use their mobile more than their laptops for their online research. Their mobile became their best friend, the first thing they look for in the morning and the first to turn to for advice. Social media play a major role in this new tendency. Through social media, the users can reach and share with their family and friends all their pictures, posts and articles. Therefore, people prefer more and more to use their phone instead of a desktop in order to connect to their social media platform and account where a majority are now using their mobile phone exclusively.

Indeed, in 2019, it is expected that 51.7% of social media users will be connecting through their mobile only and switch to mobile users definitely. Moreover, by 2019, it is presumed that the number of smartphone users in the US will reach 232.8 million which is higher than the desktop users which reaches the 228.9 million users. Moreover, people who use their phone only to have access to internet will extend until the 55.1 million users which shows a growth of 10.6%.
Many are already using their mobile phone to connect and access their social media platforms. They might use their laptops and computers for work or school still they have a preference on accessing their social media account on mobile exclusively. Therefore, by the end of this year, we forecast that social media customers that connect through their laptop or desktop will decline by 1.7 million.
Some social networks can be accessed only through a mobile device. For example, Instagram can be reached on a desktop or laptop, but it does not deliver all the features that are available on the mobile version, in fact it lacks some attributes that are the highlights and the differentials of the app that attracted more than 106.7 million users which made Instagram win the second place as the most popular social network after Facebook in the US. Another social network that can be accessed by mobile only is Snapchat which is expected to reach the 77.5million users by the end of 2019 in the US.
Marketers are taking advantage of this colossal shift, especially Facebook where its ad revenues are mainly generated by the mobile users. Facebook is continually growing and expending by offering new features to its users while expanding into new markets; indeed, it is expected that 94% of their Facebook ad income would be expected from the mobile users. It is said that Facebook might increasingly improve and modify its platform until “mobilizing” it in order to facilitate its navigation to its growing mobile community. Thus, Facebook has already stated working on a new prototype for a mobile-friendly news feed where its ad location will become vertically shaped which will be more suitable for the mobile screens.
